Before Listening

In this radio broadcast from the StoryCorps series, Priya Morganstern and her sister Bhavani Jaroff revisit a special interview that they conducted with Ken Morganstern, their aging father.

Ken suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, which causes people to gradually lose more and more of their memory as they get older.

In this interview, Priya and Bhavani chat with their father, who still remembers what is most important to him: family, love, and leaving a legacy. Think about the following questions before you begin listening:

  • What do you know about Alzheimer’s Disease?
  • Have you ever met someone, or do you have a friend or family member who has Alzheimer’s?
  • What do you think it would be like to lose your memories as you grow older?
  • What have you learned from people that are older than you in your family? What examples or life lessons have they taught you by the way they lived their lives?
