Back to: 700 Fathoms Under the Sea
Though water covers over 70% of the surface of our planet, for most of us it is still unknown territory. Journalist David Schulman talks to marine biologists and oceanographers to discover “sound channels” – special zones in the ocean that can carry sound clearly for hundreds of miles.
Before you listen, think for a moment about these questions:
- What could cause these sound channels?
- Could animals or fish make use of these sound channels?
- How do you think people might have used these channels?
- Many people are concerned about how human activities can harm the oceans, through pollution or fishing. Can you guess how sound channels may be involved?
